Tokyo Kawaii TV uncovered the secrets to SNSD’s flawless legs

A Japanese TV show recently talked about the secrets behind SNSD’s beautiful legs.
On the ‘Secrets of Beautiful Legs‘ section which is a part of Japan’s ‘Tokyo Kawaii TV‘ program aired on January 22nd, the crews of the show flew directly to Korea to uncover the secrets behind SNSD’s flawless legs. They believed that one of the secrets is the skinny jeans that the girls wore during ‘Gee’ promotion. According to them, the skinny jeans made their slim legs more attractive.
To obtain more information, ‘Tokyo Kawaii TV’ also visited SNSD members’ personal trainer, Mr. Kim at a health club to find out the type of exercises the girls have gone through. Trainer Kim said, “In the beginning, SNSD members’ bodies were not in such good shapes then. However, due to their high determination and tremendous effort in working out, the fruits of their labor seemed to be appearing now”. He added, “SNSD members’ leg lines were emphasized by their hip lines. Hip line is important”, stressing the importance of both the work-outs for legs and hips, which SNSD members had been introduced to.
Japanese netizens who watched the show commented, “It seems that the hip is the secret to beautiful legs”, “SNSD members are really pretty”, “They have different charms from Japanese idols” and “In Japan, it seems that people only seem to keep focusing on the members’ legs. I feel bad for them”.

As reported earlier, more than 400,000 ticket purchase applications were received for ‘SM Town Live in Tokyo’ concert which will be held at the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo on January 25th and 26th. An SNSD member debuted from that program!?

Despite Japan’s on-going music market recession, K-POP girl groups SNSD and KARA shined last year.

“Since KARA and SNSD both have success in Korea, when they debuted in Japan, they already had a lot of passionate fans. According to last year’s Oricon Yearly Ranking, the top domestic new comers who had their CD debut were #1 KARA and #2 SNSD. KARA had 2 singles, 5 albums and 1 DVD, 8 total things; earning 1.3 billion yen (~15.7 USD). SNSD had 2 singles, 6 albums and 1 DVD, 9 total things, they earned 880 million yen (~10.6 USD). #3 was the male 3 member band WEAVER who earned 130 million yen (~1.6 million USD).” (Music Magazine Reporter)

About their popularity in Korea, “It feels as if KARA’s season has passed, and SNSD’s popularity among young girls is high. It’s for that reason that KARA has increased their Japanese activities. Starting in January, the members play the lead roles in their TV Tokyo drama “URAKARA”.” (Journalist from Korea)

On December 30, 2010, SNSD was awarded the Best Newcomer Award by the “Japan Record Awards”. It feels as though SNSD are leading KARA by just a bit in Japan and it could be thanks to their valuable weapon, one member who is proficient in Japanese, Sooyoung. In August 2010, she was the representative member at Tokyo’s Ariake Coliseum and greeted the fans, “After this, I think there will be a lot of chances to meet with Japanese fans, so please support us!”. After this, she was proactive and she fluently spoke in Japanese at events and on TV programs. She learned this Japanese from her early years in Japan.

“When she was still 11 years old, she applied for TV Tokyo’s audition program “ASAYAN”’s “Japan-Korea Ultra Idol Duo Audition” that began in December 2001. There were around 15,000 applicants from Japan and Korea and she was selected among them. She was paired with Takahashi Marina, who has already retired, to form the female duo “routeφ”; produced by Kawamura Ryuichi. In April 2002, they released their debut single “START”. At that time, she went by her real name Choi Sooyoung.” (Record Company Officials)

“ASAYAN had already produced Suzuki Ami and Morning Musume. At the time Sooyoung passed her audition, the idol golden age was already in full force and the girls couldn’t keep up with it. “START” (R and C Ltd.) only sold 5,000 copies and entered Oricon at rank #62. By July 2003, they had already released 3 singles and 1 DVD; but still remained unknown. In March of 2003 “ASAYAN” stopped being broadcast and route0 broke up.” (Same Company As Before)

After the breakup Sooyoung returned to Korea. She took thorough singing and dance lessons. In August 2007, she was able to debut as a member of SNSD. They became big last year and she had her “triumphant return” to Japan.

Sooyoung doesn’t try hard to hide from her past. In 2008 a Korean entertainment program touched on her past activities in Japan and she thinks fondly of those times now. I have no doubt she will definitely be successful in her activities.

SNSD and WG, Korea’s global models

Korean girl groups are turning into global stars.
On January 19th, MBC’s ‘News Desk’ reported that there has been an increase in the selection of
Korean girl groups as global models for International brand names.

Recently, Intel, the world leader in semiconductor-based products have selected SNSD who are highly popular in Asia, as the main models to promote Intel’s products in the region. By selecting SNSD as the models, Intel is utilizing the girls’ visual impacts to propel the popularity and demand of their 2nd Generation Core Processors.

A representative of Intel said, “SNSD are the first Asian artistes to be chosen as the models. SNSD’s young image blended well with Intel’s products”.

Besides SNSD, Wonder Girls who are the first Korean girl group to venture into the American market, were recently appointed as ambassadors for a multinational telecommunication company.

On the reason for the selection of Korean girl groups for global businesses, a representative from the entertainment industry explained, “This is due to the fact that they (girl groups) could leave a huge impact through advertisements. As Korean wave spreads beyond the boundaries of Korea, there will be more and more companies looking for Korean girl groups to promote their products”.

Japanese Model, MONA is A 'Yoona Look-A-Like'

A model spotted in a fashion brand's photoshoot has been garnering attention for looking like SNSD's Yoona.

They look alike from their big, round eyes, sharp nose, lips that aren't thin but not too full, down to their slim facial shape. It was revealed that this 'Yoona look-a-like' is 12-year old Japanese model, MONA.

MONA, who looks like this SNSD member, recently showed off her bubbly charms through the said photoshoot for the pop culture brand, Spicy Color.

It is hard to believe that this model is only 12-years old with her stand 169cm tall and well-proportionate body.

"Black" Soshi's ChakuUta Enters At #1

Rekochoku announced on the 19th its ChakuUta® Daily Ranking and the Japanese version of SNSD’s “Run Devil Run” entered the charts at #1. SNSD has previously released the Japanese version of their 2 songs “GENIE” and “Gee”, but this is the first time they’ve been #1 on the daily rankings.

In September 2010, SNSD debuted in Japan with their song “GENIE”. In March 2010, SNSD released “Run Devil Run” in Korea as the title song for the repackage of their 2nd album. Fans call it “Black Soshi”.

“Soshi” comes from SNSD’s Korean name “So Nyuh Shi Dae”. “Black” is what it is. “Gee” and other songs show off a cute and sweet image of the girls, where as “Run Devil Run” is a cool girl who is finished with a boy saying, “You’re dull”.

The Japanese version of “Run Devil Run” began its ChakuUta® distribution on January 18th.

[RekoChoku ChakuUta® Daily Ranking]

1st: “Run Devil Run” SNSD
2nd: “Distance” Nishino Kana
3rd: “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” DBSK
4th: “EXIT” Porno Graffiti
5th: “Kimo to Tsukuru Mirai” Ketsumeishi

TL Note: A ChakuUta is a ringtone. It may not seem like a big deal to us, but it's a booming industry in Japan because Japanese phones don't let you make your own ringtones. Rekochoku makes a killing every year off of ringtones sold.

120,000 American SNSD Fanclub Members

On the afternoon of the 8th in a theatre in Los Angeles. Caucasian female, Sarah (28), who was wearing a pink T-Shirt with “Soshified” written on it danced along to SNSD’s big hit “Gee”. Sarah is one of the 120,000 members of America’s SNSD fan community “Soshified”. She participated in the first planned Soshified meeting. 500 people from all over America came together to participate in this event. “Soshified” comes from SNSD’s abbreviation “Soshi” and the English world “Satisfied”.

— How do you sing the lyrics accurately?

“I really like K-POP and I’ve started to learn Korean. Right now, I memorize the lyrics by transcribing the Korean pronunciation into English.”

— Why is K-POP good?

“American pop is all over the world and it’s hard to enjoy it together, but anyone can easily enjoy K-POP, no matter what their age.”
Up until now, America is a place that Korean singers can’t overlook. American pop is just a “textbook” that Korean singers imitate. But, by the 2nd half of the 2000s, they began to challenge that. Rain (Bi), BoA, SE7EN have all stood on the American stage. Wonder Girls became the first ever Korean singers to appear on the Billboard Charts at 76.
Last September 15,000 American fans gathered in LA for the “SM Town Concert”. SNSD, Super Junior, SHINee and other SM Entertainment artists participated in the concert and the tickets to the performance were completely sold out one month before.
On this day at “Soshified”’s event location you could see people from various races. Black people, white people, Asian people, etc… were all present equally. SMUSA said, “Of those in attendance, more than half were Hispanic, white or some other non-Asian race”. At the event venue they played the Korean produced SNSD videos. The venue had cheers of joy as they watched the SNSD members dance and sing on the video. Uncle fans were also noticeable. In a lively voice they did the fan chants “SEO NYUH SHI DAE!”. With a moustache and long beard Grimmy (49) introduced himself, “I’m a long time SNSD uncle fan”.

— How did you come to know Korean girl groups?

“Through YouTube and other internet sites. But, not just SNSD, KARA and Secret too, I like mostly Korean girl groups.”

— Why do you like Korean girl groups?

“In American groups, it’s typical that only 1 member is noticed. In Korean girl groups, all of the members are charming. All 9 members are Beyonce in SNSD.”
They finished up the day by flying paper airplanes with what they would want to say to SNSD written on them. On Twitter they also expressed their wishes for SNSD in the “Tell me your wish” corner. The main way for K-POP to broaden and cross over from Asia into places like America and Europe is through YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other global networks. Even though SNSD hasn’t debuted officially in America, they still have a large-scale fanclub such as this.
On the 13th in America’s Wall Street Journal they had a special feature and reported, “SNSD was successful in their Japan debut thanks to the PR efforts on YouTube. Using YouTube for PR doesn’t cost much at all and you could see the response in the market before their debut. Korean entertainment companies are being proactive with their YouTube usage.”

When Psy won the award for best album, Kim Jang Hoon joined him on stage for a powerful celebration performance. While singing “I’m a Man,” Kim Jang Hoon descended into the crowd of jubilant idols where SNSD and others were cheering.
