SNSD appeared on Peruvian TV

SNSD are on the brink of global domination, especially with the collaboration with Intel Asia lately. We have also seen some early signs of Europe turning PINK soon with media and website coverage involving the girls.
The wave does not stop in Europe though as it has made its way to South America especially Brazil and Peru where fan sites are mushrooming. These sites have done some amazing stuff to spread Soshi love in the region.
Recently, on a special kpop program aired by a Peruvian TV station in Chiclayo, SNSD was mentioned and some cuts from ‘Oh!’ MV was shown. During broadcast, the host mentioned:
Host: But if you think that only girls enjoy the fever of asian music, you’re wrong. There is something for boys too. I introduce you the Korean Divas, a group known as SNSD or Girls’ Generation.
*Footage – Oh! (SNSD)
Host: They are voted as the ‘Best Girl Group of Korea’ with millions of views on YouTube.
Guy: yeah, the girls are beautiful…
*Host then talked about other groups.
Here is the video clip showing the broadcast on the mentioned Peruvian TV program.

Korean media sees the second half of 2010 and 2011 as the golden era of idol groups in Korea. In fact, the Kpop phenomenon is spreading beyond the boundaries of Korean peninsular and this is just the beginning. It is possible that in a few years time, the whole world would be listening to Kpop. Of course, if there is an idol group who could make such a dream comes true, it has to be SNSD!

DSP Media and SM Entertainment comment on inappropriate Japanese manga

We reported earlier that Girls' Generation and KARA were handled inappropriately in a Japanese manga in which members of both groups became famous through sexual acts and financial transactions to create the "Hallyu" phenomenon. On January 13, DSP Media and SM
Entertainment released statements about this controversy.

According to a spokesperson from DSP Media, "The information is incorrect", because the comic presents negative, sexual-related situations within the Korean music industry as if they were the truth. Indeed, the situations were being ported as the truth, as members of the Japanese community 2ch who stated that the situations in the manga were "completely the truth" and that "[Girls' Generation's and KARA's] songs are in Japanese" so it is not K-pop.

DSP Media finally stated that they will be taking immediate legal action because the manga defames the Korean entertainment industry and tarnishes the images of both Girls' Generation and KARA.
SM Entertainment only commented that they was discussing the issue with Japanese lawyers, and that action will be taken soon.

Japanese comic strip claims the Hallyu Wave was fabricated

A Japanese comic series belittling and attacking Korean idol singers has been circulating on the web and recently caught the attention of Korean fans.
Titled “The Investigation of the Fabricated Hallyu Boom,” the comic was first uploaded on Japanese web boards and images can still be found on Yahoo! Japan and other portal sites.
The comic begins with a former Korean idol, who now works as a hostess, meeting with her client and a reporter in order to tell the ‘truth’ about the lives of Korean idol stars.

She claims that SNSD and KARA, who are both ‘trending stars’ of Japan, all perform sexual favors, and that the Korean government invests $150 million USD into a Japanese entertainment agency that ‘fabricates’ the Hallyu wave.
Using the case of SNSD’s airport entrance in Japan, she claims that the government lied about 800 fans waiting to greet them and that there were actually only 100 people consisting of employees from a company that fabricates the Hallyu wave.
The comic features other scenes such as KARA dancing their famous ‘butt dance’ naked, and even mentions actress
Jang Ja Yeon, who committed suicide in 2009 due to pressures to provide sexual favors and her slave contract with her agency.
The comic claims, “Providing sexual favors in the Korean entertainment industry is something that is definite.  This comic was based off of investigations,” further enraging fans.
Fans have found that the comic is a part of a literary coterie magazine created for and by ‘otakus’ of a particular fetish.

Regarding the controversy, officials of SM Entertainment and DSP Media revealed, “We will be prioritizing our understanding of the issue first, and will be paying close attention to the case.

Girls' Generation and Kara are handled inappropriately in a Japanese manga?

A Japanese manga titled "An Analysis on the K-pop Boom Lies" by Hanaya Matoya and Shamoji have become extremely popular in Japan, making Korean fans extremely irate. The manga is about a former K-pop idol hostess explaining to her customer and a reporter about the "real" story of K-pop, but all of the stories are made up.

The manga talks about how Girls' Generation and KARA have both made their way to the top by having sex with important people. It also accuses the Korean government of paying a large Japanese entertainment company 1,600,000,000,000 JPY (19,196,160,000.00 USD) per year to make the phenomenon of "Hallyu."

The manga also asserts that only 100 fans were at the airport when Girls' Generation entered Japan, instead of the 800 that was reported. It claims that 700 were actually employees of K-pop companies. The manga shows Kara doing the Mister butt dance with no clothes on, brings up the Korean "slave contracts", and also talks about Jang Jayeon who committed suicide in 2009 because of sexual abuse.

The Japanese community 2ch commented that this was "completely the truth", "their songs are in Japanese, how is it K-pop." But some people have said, "people that draw this sort of thing are just looking for attention."

Korean fans have said, "this thing is trash. It totally fits that country," and "the companies have to sue for defamation of character." Some have decided to be more optimistic and said, "I think this just proves K-pop groups' popularity," and that "no response is the best response."
